Biblical Forgeries: Creating a Biblical Book lecture.
Several books in Christian Bibles were demonstrably not written by their alleged authors. Many of these books are now designated the "Pseudepigrapha" or "Apocrypha." The term pseudepigrapha means generally falsely written, and the term apocrypha means 'secret' or, more suspiciously, "hidden." How did such seemingly spurious writings become part of the biblical canon? In this lecture Wright will explain how these books came into being and how they became canonical. This fresh look at these "false," "secret," or "hidden" books will reveal the great diversity that existed in earliest Judaism and Christianity. The speaker for this lecture will be Ed Wright, endowed professor of Judaic Studies at the University of Arizona. This lecture will take place at Hillel on the University of Arizona campus located at 1245 East 2nd street. The lecture will begin at 4 P.M. Parking will be available at 2nd street garage. This event is free and open to the public.
